Tree Trim and Removal

Your Board has received comments in the past regarding the alarming number of dead or obviously dying pine and aspen trees in Discovery. In addition, we have received requests to trim or remove numerous shrubs and trees based on recommendations from Colorado Springs Fire Department Firewise evaluations. Recently, we have received requests based on safety, structural, and aesthetic concerns.

While we have always taken pride in maintaining as much of the natural beauty of Discovery as possible, trees that have reached the end of their lives present a fire danger for our neighborhood. Additionally, your Board is conscious of the fact that we now have a number of very large, very old trees that are overcrowded and in some cases are too close to structures or walks or driveways, are precariously leaning, or are creating shading problems leading to icing in the winter. If you have dead or dying trees on your property, or trees that present safety, structural or aesthetic concerns, we encourage you to take the initiative to remove them before they create further problems for you. However, please work with our Architectural Review Committee (ARC) first!

REMOVAL OF ANY LIVE SHRUB OR TREE REQUIRES PRIOR ARC APPROVAL. ARC APPROVAL IS NOT REQUIRED BEFORE  REMOVING ANY DEAD SHRUBS OR TREES.

ARC approval forms can be found here. All such requests will be handled expeditiously.

NOTE: Many Discovery residents have expressed interest in prior experience with tree services, such as pruning, fire mitigation or removal. Previously, your Board used Discovery Neighborhood Assistance (DNA)  funds to help contract for removal of a dead tree for a homeowner who was unable, financially or physically, to take care of it. We solicited seven tree service companies for bids and awarded the contract to Mountain High Tree Care on the basis of both price and prior performance on other Discovery tree projects. Results of this project were completely satisfactory.

Accordingly, we recommend you consider Mountain High Tree Care for your tree projects. If you are interested, contact Susan Boncore at 719-444-8800.

This is an opportunity to address, in a timely and cost effective manner, those tree problems which may contribute to fire, safety, structural, or aesthetic concerns.
