Bobcats!

Many thanks to Gary Morrell for this insight (and warning!) about more of our Discovery wildlife neighbors.

This Bobcat mom and her two kittens have been hanging around the area the 7400 block of Delmonico Drive since mid-June. While all are cute in a cat sense, this momma Bobcat is rather confrontational and aggressive -- this is the first time I've experienced this in my near 24 years here. Usually when people come out, Bobcats run away.  This one jumps atop a fence and growls at us.

Bobcats have no feline professional courtesy...they will kill and eat your house cat if you let it out. If you see this one, especially with her kittens, take in your pets and children and leave her be.

The first two pictures were taken October 3 at about 3:20 PM as she and the kittens strolled past my back yard. The last one was taken by a wildlife camera on June 24th when she was hunting for her kittens.

Please remember that as familiar as our local wildlife is with our presence, they are still wild creatures and can be extremely dangerous if they feel they (or especially their young!) feel threatened in any way. Give them a wide berth for both your health and their safety.
