DHOA Annual Meeting for 2017
Synopsis
The Discovery Homeowners Association Annual Meeting was held Oct. 17, 2017 at the Colorado Springs Utilities Conservation & Environmental Center on Mesa Road.
Jack Lundberg, president, introduced the board and three guest speakers of interest to our neighborhood. Molly Morris, Colorado Springs Utilities representative, provided a short presentation on "water-wise" landscaping geared to our neighborhood. Updates on the 2017 Firewise Project (to be conducted twice again in 2018) and neighborhood crime prevention were provided by Fire and Police Department representatives.
A quorum of residents was present, thereby allowing official business to be conducted. The 2018 Budget was adopted by unanimous vote. It is a near replica of the 2017 Budget, which resulted in a surplus. The 2018 budget, along with the 2017 Budget and 2017 actual expenditures, is available here. Your HOA is in excellent financial shape, which says a lot for our low fee structure and prudent oversight of expenditures.
Jack Lundberg announced that he is term limited and will not return to the Board. Elections resulted in the retention of three HOA Board members who will complete their initial terms this year: Gayle White, Mike Daniels, and Rick Midtbo. No one stepped forward to fill the vacancy created by Jack Lundberg's departure, nor was there a nomination from the floor.
The membership present also voted to retain the services of our Administrator (Jan Doran) for 2018.
Rick Midtbo provided a short report on the Board's effort to identify a locking mailbox alternative that is both cost-effective and compatible with our unique mailbox structure. While time constraints precluded presenting a formal slide show on the Board's findings and recommendation during the meeting, it is available here.
