Woodmen Bridge Roadwork

Dustin Purkey, Bridge Construction Inspector for the City of Colorado Springs City Engineering, recently sent us an email with details about YET MORE work on the two bridges on Woodmen Road over Monument Creek and over the BNSF/UPRR Rail Road. He asked us to let our members know that the city anticipates starting the project -- which will again create significant traffic delays -- before the end February. Work is scheduled to  last until the end of April, weather permitting (Mar-Apr).

Please note the statement from their press release below:

On Monday February 26th, beginning at 9 AM, all traffic on Woodmen Road west bound, will be reduced to one lane over Monument Creek to allow for the removal of fence fabric, post rehabilitation, painting, and installation of new fencing. This will occur for approximately two weeks, and then east bound traffic over Monument Creek will be reduced to one lane for the same work to occur. When work is complete on the bridge over the creek, work will begin on the bridge over the Rail Road. The same type of work, removal of fencing, rehabilitation of posts, painting, and installation of fence fabric, will be performed. The same traffic patter will occur. The west bound lanes will be reduced to one lane between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM and when the west bound side is complete the lane closures will occur in the east bound lanes. This project is expected to take approximately 9 weeks and should be completed the last week of April.

Drivers should plan on taking alternate routes during the project.

For the safety and expediency of construction and the safety of the traveling public, the City of Colorado Springs ask motorists to pay close attention to posted speed limits and signs throughout the project area. All construction activities are weather and resource dependent.

We want to thank all motorists for their patience during the duration of the project.

This project is funded by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.

The main item of work will be the removal and installation of the fence fabric. There will also be work performed on the fence posts to include rehabilitation and painting. Work below the bridges will also be occurring as the box girders beneath will be cleaned of debris. This work may have some minor effect on the trail under the bridge over Monument Creek.

Construction impacts will be kept as minimal as possible.
